Rushing Mountain Stream
Here are a couple more shots from our trip last week. These were taken somewhere along the Roaring Fork Motor Trail, a 5-mile-long road that winds through the forest. The photos are of the same scene, one taken with a slower shutter speed (more exposure) than the other. I did lighten them both just a little. Which do you prefer? I like the first because the slower shutter seems to make the water look more like it's rushing than the second which just seems to freeze it. I'm actually surprised it turned out this good since I didn't have a tripod.
1. Exposure: 1/30, Aperture: f/8

2. Exposure: 1/125, Aperture: f/3.2

That is interesting. I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder. See, I prefer the second photo, the light playing off the droplets of water. Looks like someone got their feet wet.
Beamer
Humm... you may be right... I was just having so much fun figuring out how to make it look that way that it may have overshadowed the fact that the simple way was actually better.
I also like the second one better. As for the first one, I would have used an even longer exposure (say 1/10 or 1/8), but then a tripod would have been a must
Anyway, excellent photos, I really enjoy your blog!
Doru,
Thanks for the suggestion. I do appreciate any help. I think I have a decent eye for photography, but my mathmatical mind has a hard time figuring out shutter speed/aperture etc... not sure why. :-)
Angie, I'll break from the pack ... I like the first one. I've often tried this shot and failed miserably without a tripod. You'd think I'd learn my lesson and lug the damn thing around with me ...
Nice steady hands and great shot!
cheers
